“Yes, indeed, retirement day came on March 22, 2025. We had a lovely, if slightly sad, last day with coffee and cookies and many best wishes. Now the movers have come gone, and after one last walkabout, we have handed in the keys.
All good things do eventually come to an end. The staff and I are all getting up there in mileage, so we decided it was time.
We cannot express how touched and grateful we are for all of the kind and generous comments from all of our customers.
40 years is a long time for any business. 20 years with the founding owners, Birgitte and Victoria, and 20 years under the guiding hands of Michael and his sister Ilse. The business has left a lasting legacy in the Scandinavian community and has been part of the fabric of Cordova Bay.
Longtime staff members,Leslie, Mary, Betty and Judy, gave the store it’s character and made the shopping experience special. Their help, kindness and support made it possible to successfully run the business for all of these years.
As promised, in response to customer questions, we will post a list of possible sources for many of our scarce and beloved products. The list will appear under a new tab marked: Sources. Look for the list over the next weeks as we see who in the Victoria area will take up some of our lines.
We encourage everyone to continue to support local business. If we want unique and charming neighbourhoods, full of special and interesting places, we need to be there through good times and bad. Communities can only exist and thrive when we nurture and support them.
